Integration with Technology
One of the biggest changes in education is getting tablets in the hands of more and more students—but not to give them the opportunity to play games. Tablets in students’ hands means the opportunity for them to have access to more books, more research and more access to educators. This “on demand” type of learning can only increase comprehension. It also allows students to get automatic updates to E-textbooks as information or learning shifts.
Remote Learning
Another change in education surfaced years ago, but continues to make strides in higher and specialized education. Distance learning, where an educator is filmed, shares a white board and can be accessed around the world allows those teachers and specialists to share their knowledge with the entire world. This cross-pollination of learning helps advance technology, save lives and expand our understanding of the Earth as we know.
Self Learning
Finally I think another innovative trend in education is having students explore projects on their own. Think of it as a Science Fair that crosses the science boundary. Self learning teaches students real-world skills, by allowing them to choose and manage their own projects. While all projects need to have measurable points, a student-designed and led project succeeds or fails on that student’s diligence. This project method of teaching instills responsibility in the students and gets them on track to succeed in the business world.
As education changes and evolves, we will see even more innovations and improvements that will allow almost anyone on this planet the opportunity to learn and improve themselves in ways that were not possible a few decades ago.
